As a Kansas City newborn and maternity photographer, I love capturing the special moments each family experiences. I still marvel at those tiny fingers, toes, and the amazing bond that’s so visibly shown in parents’ gazes… No matter how many sessions that I do.
Another Newborn Surprise…
When I plan a maternity or newborn session, I work closely with parents to carefully choose the best lighting, clothing, poses, angles, and locations to best capture this special time. Many couples also want to include their furry family members in their sessions, which I love. Raul and Alexandra’s maternity session was one of my favorite photography sessions this year. It was so magical and memorable! They kicked it up a notch by including their majestic black horse Flicka and — most amazingly — her own newborn (only three weeks old!) colt.
Magical Moments
Watching Flicka and her colt interact with Alexandra was one of the most remarkable experiences I’ve had as a photographer. This sweet and gentle newborn foal seemed to be aware of Alexandra’s pregnancy. He nuzzled and nudged her belly bump in the softest, most endearing way. New mom Flicka also seemed to be aware of the special wonder Alexandra carried. I was able to capture Flicka pressing her head ever-so-gently against Alexandra’s belly bump. Many women have recounted stories of horses becoming more gentle and patient when they are with women who are expecting. After this spectacular photo session, I would certainly believe it, too.
A Friend for Life
Raul shared with me that this sweet little foal and his newborn boy will be like brothers, growing up together, always knowing the other is there for him. What a joyful and endearing plan for their future.
