What is a Lifestyle Session?
A lifestyle session primarily focuses on documenting the interactions and bonds within your family during the everyday moments. I aim to capture the beauty of natural and raw moments… during the laughs and giggles, yet also during the cries and chaos. A few posed photos will be thrown in, but the majority of the session will focus around your genuine interactions with one another. I may periodically guide your family and make small suggestions throughout the session, but ultimately, the goal is to capture candid moments. In addition, a lifestyle session can also be coordinated to take place during an activity such as cooking your favorite breakfast foods and eating together as a family, playing your favorite games, reading books together and then tucking the kids in for bed... the ideas are endless!
Where do Lifestyle Sessions take place?
Lifestyle sessions takes place within your home… typically within areas where you spend a lot of time in. This is often within the living room, bedroom, or nursery. Upon my arrival, I will quickly assess your home for the best areas of natural light.
How long are Lifestyle Sessions?
Lifestyle sessions can last anywhere between 1-2 hours, depending on what you would like to be documented. For example, cooking and eating breakfast together as a family and then playing your favorite board games might take up to 2 hours. It can be as long as 4 hours or as short as a typical 1 hour session. The choice is yours!
Do I need to clean the house?
I recommend a light declutter and tidying up in areas of the home that you wish to be photographed in, but don’t go crazy! A lifestyle session is about documenting your life authentically. In reality, most homes aren’t perfectly neat all the time! In addition, don’t be surprised if I move some furniture around. Sometimes in order to achieve the ideal light within a certain area, we may need to shift some things around… but no worries, I’ll be sure to put everything back to its original spot!
What do we wear?
Neutral toned clothing (white, ivory, tan, gray, navy, soft/light hues of pinks, purples, and blues, etc.) is best. I recommend avoiding bright colors, busy or big patterns, and logos. Brightly colored clothing can also reflect unflattering colors to the skin. Another thing to consider is the color palette of your home. Plan to wear tones that best compliment the area of the home that you'd like to be photographed in. Most importantly, find something you’re comfortable in! Remember that the goal of a lifestyle session is to capture the family in your most natural state.
