The beauty of newborn lifestyle photography sessions is that families get to bond with their babies in their natural setting. Lifestyle sessions are taken in the comforts of their home. The baby’s nursery or special items in the house are often incorporated into photos. My hope is for those photos to serve as a reminder of a precious time in their history… Even if it’s during a pandemic.
Meet Omari. Born in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, we captured him and his family while he was just 5 weeks old. I normally like to schedule newborn photography sessions within the first 2 weeks of life, but the business shutdowns in the greater Kansas City area pushed back the date a few weeks. It didn’t end up being an issue at all, and we had an unforgettable session.
While I offer different newborn photography styles, Omari’s family requested a lifestyle approach. We were able to bring his two doggy brothers into the session. The sweet shih tzus were so cute and so well-behaved the entire time. I honestly don’t recall that they barked once!
During lifestyle sessions, I also try to incorporate different rooms in the house. Every room can carry such a special meaning depending on where families may have bonded with their baby. For Omari’s session, we photographed him in the living room, dining room, outside patio, nursery and a bedroom. The decor was sweet, and I loved shooting a variety from inside the home and a few outside.
