Why I became a Newborn Photographer

I often get asked why I chose to focus on becoming a newborn photographer, and I have so many reasons! There is an indescribable joy you feel from being in a room with a newborn and their family. It feels like all of the exhaustion that admittedly comes with a new baby melts away during these sessions as parents focus on what is so special about having a precious new bundle of joy- the cuddles, the sleepy infant, and those tiny hands and feet!

Here are some other reasons I decided to become a Kansas City Newborn Photographer:

I love to create

There is so much creativity that goes into a newborn photography session. Creating the set-up takes creativity to another level. It involves choosing backdrops, props, stuffers, colors, flowers, and so on! I must admit… I have a prop obsession! My husband and I turned an entire bedroom into a newborn prop room to store all of the beautiful little things that I bring to clients’ homes for their newborn photography sessions.  Although it can be fun browsing local antique shops, Etsy, and other online newborn photography prop vendors, it does involve a lot of investment and work. Business Insider even captured behind-the-scenes of what it can take to get a newborn photographed.

I love capturing a memory for parents

We all know newborns don’t stay little for very long! Their little faces can start to change in a few weeks or months. When parents come back to me months or even years after photographing their newborn, I enjoy looking back on their newborns’ photos from their first few days of life and try to find the similarities that remain in the child… whether it be the cute little dimples, those deep blue eyes, or the sweet curls of their hair.

I love the challenge

Despite what some may think, newborn photography can be challenging. The Hub even calls it “one of the hardest types of photography.” While it’s true that there are different pressures and obstacles that come with photographing a newborn, I love the challenge. Plus, I have the experience to help mitigate a lot of the challenges. I’m used to shooting for different family dynamics and various home environments- so I come prepared!

Babies are so dang cute

When your subject is a precious little baby- it’s hard to get a bad picture! Whether they’re sleeping, crying or cooing- I have endless opportunities to capture beautiful moments! Who wouldn’t want this job?

Capturing beautiful memories for a growing family makes my job so rewarding. Knowing that these photos will be cherished in a family for generations gives me a sense of purpose. If you are looking for a Kansas City Newborn photographer, I encourage you to check out my Newborn Gallery and feel free to contact me. It would be my honor to be a part of this experience.
