Nothing compares to the joy I see from expecting parents! I love the glow that exudes from a family waiting for their new addition. While it’s such an exciting time, a new baby can come with a long checklist to complete before their arrival. From setting up the nursery, finishing the baby registry to taking a childbirth class- there are lots to do to prepare! Newborn photography might seem down on your list considering it takes place after the baby is born, but capturing your baby during their first few days of life isn’t something you can replicate once the time has passed.
So when should I book a newborn photography session?
As an experienced Kansas City newborn photographer, I’m often asked when the best time is to book a newborn photography session. My short answer is- as soon as you have a due date! You’ll be so relieved you have this item checked off your list because once baby has arrived you’ll likely be too occupied or sleep deprived to be scheduling a photo shoot. Sleep deprivation is real and according to a report in Parents, “new moms are more sleep deprived than we thought.” So don’t wait– book while you’re still of clear mind!
When is the best time to photograph a newborn?
The best time to photograph your newborn is within the first 12 days of life. Newborns are still spending their first days sleeping quite a bit at this age, which makes it ideal to get those sleepy, curly poses. After two weeks of age, babies are more awake and harder to settle. Once you’ve booked and given me your due date, I will plan to schedule a time for your session approximately 5 to 12 days after you’re due, but please rest assured the date can be tweaked to ensure the session takes place during the ideal timeframe.
What to consider in your photographer?
Before you book a photographer, I imagine you’ll be doing a lot of research and seeing what styles stand out to you. I can shoot different styles of newborn photography- lifestyle and posed.
